THE CHALLENGE
The chief challenge with a surprise birthday party is keeping it a surprise, particularly if the venue is the home of the ‘surprised’ celebrant. Wives speak in mysterious code on the phone, husbands suggest unexpected walks in the middle of the afternoon, and siblings ask odd questions about parent’s food preferences. Bills birthday bash was no different and a great deal of slight-of-hand was deployed in selecting a menu and getting both our team and Bill in the right place at the right time.
ON THE DAY
Hiding a large white fridge van takes a bit of doing. Fortunately the family home had an abundance of trees and shrubs meaning our presence on site was not revealed until quite late in the day. Once underway, everything went well. Bill and his guests were fed and watered and when our part in the proceedings came to an end we slipped away leaving everyone to party on into the night.
